Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 19, 2026
ClosetCheck (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is an AI-powered digital closet app for iPhone and iPad. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Closets are private by default. Sharing is something you choose—not something we do for you.
1. Introduction
ClosetCheck helps you photograph clothing, match items to real products, organize your wardrobe, and get dressed with what you already own. Our product is built around a two-domain model:
- Your private closet — items you own, sizes, purchase details, wear and borrow history, personal photos, and try-on / “My Model” references. Private by default and protected by access controls.
- A shared product catalog — canonical product knowledge (brands, styles, images from allowed sources). The catalog contains products, never people’s closets. Ownership, purchase info, sizes, wear history, and borrowing are not published as part of the public catalog.
Controls such as Hide From Public (exclude your contribution from community aggregates) and Keep Product Private (keep a product you created private to you) let you limit how information related to your use appears outside your own closet.
This policy applies to the ClosetCheck iOS/iPadOS app, our website at closetcheck.app, and related services we operate. It is written in plain language for consumers and App Store review; it is not legal advice.
2. Information we collect
Account and identity
When you create an account, we may collect:
- Email address
- Sign-in credentials via email, Sign in with Apple, and (if enabled) Google Sign-In
- Basic profile details you choose to provide (for example, a display name)
Closet and wardrobe content
To run the product, we store content you create or upload, such as:
- Photos of clothing and accessories
- Closet items, outfits, notes, and tags
- Sizes, purchase information, and wear or borrow logs
- “My Model” / try-on reference photos — treated as private personal content, not used in the public product catalog
Product identification inputs
When you identify or search for a product, we may process barcodes (UPC/SKU), text queries, and images you submit so we can match them against our catalog and, when needed, external product search providers.
Technical and usage data
We may collect:
- Device type, OS version, and app version
- Approximate diagnostics (crashes, performance, feature errors)
- Limited analytics about how features are used — designed to be privacy-conscious. We do not send private closet photos into analytics tooling as a matter of product design.
- Website waitlist emails if you subscribe on closetcheck.app
Communications
If you email us (for example support or waitlist requests), we keep the content of that correspondence so we can respond.
Information we do not sell
We do not sell your personal information. We do not sell closet photos or wardrobe history to data brokers.
3. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve ClosetCheck
- Authenticate you and secure your account
- Identify clothing, match products, enrich catalog records you confirm, and power AI-assisted features you request
- Sync your closet across your signed-in devices
- Respond to support requests and service announcements
- Monitor reliability and prevent abuse (rate limits, fraud, spam)
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use
We do not use your private closet contents to advertise other people’s products to third parties based on what is in your closet.
4. AI processing and third parties
Some ClosetCheck features send data to processors that help us run the app. Sensitive work happens on our servers (Supabase edge functions and related backend services). API keys for AI and search providers are kept server-side and are never shipped inside the iOS app.
AI models (for example OpenAI)
When you use identification, ranking, tagging, or similar features, photos or text you submit may be processed by AI providers to extract attributes, rank matches, or generate structured results. Outputs can be imperfect; we may ask you to confirm before storing product data. Image generation, if offered, is a last-resort feature and is still processed under the same server-side model.
Product search and catalog providers
If our internal catalog does not find a confident match, we may query external product sources such as Shopify Catalog and other search providers (for example SerpApi-powered shopping/visual search, or barcode lookup services). Those providers receive the query inputs needed for the search (text, identifiers, and/or images). External results are candidates until you confirm them; confirmed products may be stored in ClosetCheck’s catalog for future matches. Some external product images are for real-time display only and are not cached or reused beyond what the provider and our product rules allow.
Infrastructure
We use cloud infrastructure (including Supabase for database, auth, storage, and edge functions) to host accounts, closets, and processing jobs. Those providers process data on our behalf under their terms and our configuration (including access controls / row-level security for private user data).
Sign-in providers
If you use Sign in with Apple or Google, those companies process authentication according to their policies. We receive the account identifiers needed to create and maintain your ClosetCheck session.
App distribution
ClosetCheck is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple may process purchase, download, and device information under Apple’s privacy terms.
5. When we share information
We share personal information only in these situations:
- With service providers who process data for us (hosting, AI, product search, email delivery, crash reporting) — only as needed to operate ClosetCheck
- With your direction — for example if you explicitly share a closet, outfit, or item, or choose settings that allow limited contribution to community product knowledge (subject to Hide From Public / Keep Product Private)
- For legal reasons — if required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security
- Business transfers — if ClosetCheck is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may transfer under continued confidentiality expectations
The public product catalog does not expose your private closet, ownership records, purchase history, wear logs, or borrow history.
6. Retention
We keep account and closet data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we aim to delete or de-identify personal closet data associated with that account within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records for security, dispute resolution, legal compliance, or backups that rotate on a normal schedule.
Product catalog records that are shared product knowledge (not your private ownership data) may remain in the catalog after account deletion when they are not personal to you.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards appropriate to an app of this type, including encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS), authentication, and database access controls so private closet data is not publicly readable by default. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we work to reduce risk but cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong device passcode and protect your sign-in methods.
We do not claim third-party security certifications (such as SOC 2) in this policy unless we separately publish them.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated personal data
- Export a copy of your closet / account data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based
In the app: use account and privacy settings where available (including Hide From Public and Keep Product Private).
Account deletion and data export: providing in-app account deletion and a personal data export is a product goal for ClosetCheck. As those features ship, they will be available in Settings. Until then—or if you cannot complete a request in the app—email privacy@closetcheck.app and we will help you delete your account or obtain a copy of your data.
If you signed in with Apple or Google, you may also manage those connections in the provider’s account settings.
9. Children’s privacy
ClosetCheck is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
10. International users
ClosetCheck is operated from the United States. If you use the app from another country, your information may be processed in the United States and other locations where our providers operate. Those places may have different data-protection laws than your home country. By using ClosetCheck, you understand that your information may be transferred as described in this policy.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top and, for material changes, provide additional notice in the app or by email when appropriate. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
